ABOUT THE ACADEMY OF WORSHIP AND THE ARTS

Rev. Cynthia J. Rivers is an extremely versatile personality and public servant. Her love for education motivated her to earn the Bachelor of Music degree in Music Therapy from Michigan State University at East Lansing Michigan, the Master of Science Degree in Music Education (voice) from Tennessee State University, at Nashville Tennessee, the Master of Church Music and the Master of Divinity Degrees from the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) at Atlanta, Georgia. She also matriculated at Texas Woman’s University, Denton, Texas for two years as a graduate teaching assistant in music therapy. She is an exceptional preacher of the gospel, a professor of music, arts and worship and a talented coloratura soprano, who has extensive achievements to her credit as an educator at all levels from pre-k to graduate school, minister of music, composer, music therapist, and performer of classical and gospel music. Following a 25-year career as a music therapist she served as Adjunct Professor of Music and Worship at

the ITC for 13 years while founding, directing and pastoring a home-based 24-hour mission, (Imani Ministries LLC) for 12 years. In addition, she frequently serves as consultant to individuals, and churches.
